the best way to prolong the life of the ball is to make sure it is not sitting in the back of your trunk over a long period of time. heat can do some crazy things to your ball like core separation. now if you want to ensure that your ball is performing the way it should, take it to the pro shop and have your pro shop tech look at it and make suggestions/recommendations.

i have tried soaking the ball with warm water, you can see the oil coming out but pros say that the reactive resin also comes out with the oil so it is also possible that you lose the power of the ball....ebonite has done a good product to remove the oil from the ball without removing the reactive resin...it´s called the "hook again"...it revives the power of the ball by maybe 80%, i have tried it and its great....

psuedomonas,

balls have pores and if you wash them with water or dip it in a bucket of warm water, your ball might absorb the water. if you try heating up the ball (to expel the oil), you might cause the core to separate from the shell. if you want to clean the ball, use the cleaners available in pro shops. i recommend the ultimate black magic products.

ebonite has a product that can improve the hitting power and reaction of a ball. angelo mentioned it in his post.

personally, i don´t worry much about maintaining the balls. my bowling balls go from surface to shine to scuffed depending on the lane condition. what´s important is they don´t track marks.

hope this helps.

yes ebonite has a line of liquid and towel cleaners and ball maintinance products i tried them and it really works...you can ask your proshops or check the website.

or try ebonite´s hook again. they have sa playdium proshop i tried it with my old and new bowling ball and both became more stronger than before plus i regularly clean them after each tournament.

so does storm, columbia and track. they have cleaners as well. and they will
all do the same thing.
anyone ever try the kitty litter? fill the bucket half full? put the ball in and pour the rest of the kitty litter in over the ball. leave for a few hours and clean off the litter that got stuck to the ball after all the oil came off with it.
that´s what bowlers tell me. haven´t tried it yet.

Pseudo: i use puro ebonite products, kasi puro ebonite din mga bola ko pero i know kahit anung brand ng mga cleaners pwede sa mga ibat-ibang brand na bola.
i use yun ebonite power house cleaners like the matte finish, particle polish, factory finish polish, energizer ball cleaner and the ball cleaner. yun last 2 na cleaners palagi kong ginagamit after tournaments or league games. i guess kahit nakakatamad maglinis i see to it na bago itago yung bola mabawasan yung mga dumi ng lanes na kumakapit...sayang din kasi kung hindi tatagal yun bola pero ganun talaga kahit anung alaga sa gamit may duration din talaga...well i like to clean that´s me....hehehe

Pseudo: I dont know the color pink na cleaner sir? well you can ask the proshops na meron nun pero check mo din sa ibang bowlers or coaches, yun iba nga hindi yata naglilinis ng bola pero nagha-high game or even wins tournaments...hindi din natin alam kanya-kanyang diskarte yan diba? well sir its up to you pa rin. it´s still your decision kung ano ang gagawin mo para walang sisihan hehehe! have fun

I have just bought a Storm Eraser PBT particle ball, but have not used it much while sorting out thumb hole problems. I have not yet played with it enough to experience the problems of oil absorption.

Anyway, after hearing about the need to clean reactive bowling balls regularly, I came across an article on the net regarding washing of balls. It appears to be recommended by the manufacturers to Team USA bowlers. Read all about it at

I do not know how good the integrity of the author is, but the process seems similar to what Coach Angelo tried to do. I guess the real challenge is to seal the ball holes. See if you want to try it. Cheers !

It describes a method similar to what Coach Angelo tried. It does seem that it will be quite a challenge to seal the ball holes while soaking the ball. Good luck !
