how do you read the lanes?

how do you adjust to that kind of lane?

what are the different oil patterns and what do you do to conquer that lane?

hello there!!

regarding your questions about lane conditions and how to read the lane umpisahan ko about the different kinds of lane conditions

basically there are 5 lane conditions. 1st and probably the hardest is the REVERSE BLOCK, wherein there is very little oil in the middle of the lane and flooded oil going out.

2nd is the GUTTER TO GUTTER where there is the same amount of oil placed in the lane from board 1 to board 39

3rd lane condition is the CROWN wherein there is a lot of oil in the middle of the lane and going out there is lesser oil

4th is the CHRISTMAS TREE pattern, more or less the same as the crown patern but a little tricky.

5th and last is the TOP HAT pattern, where there is a LOT of oil inthe middle and almost no oil outside.

basically the 1st 2 conditions are the hardest ones for any bowler because it needs accuracy in the target and execution. the next 2 conditions i mentioned are rather easy for bowlers just need the find your HOLD area. the last condition is the easiest, sa atin nga ang term is PAMBULAG because you just nee to throw it going out and the ball just comes back to the pocket, parang may higop!

reagrding how to read the lanes, madaming paraan para magbasa ng lane. most of the tournaments have a print out of the pattern they are going to use in the tournament. by that print out you can see what pettern they are using, how thick the oil is and basically an idea what ball and target you can use.

2nd you can ask other bowlers who have played already how is the lane condition and what line they are using. kung mababa ang score nila, malamang mali linya ang gamit nila kung mataas ang score nila clue na yun na gayahin mo ang line nila dahil duon tataas ang score mo

another thing i suggest is watching other bowlers bowl and see what is the right line. minsan kasi kung magtatanung ka lang yung iba CHISMIS so its better if you watch para makita mo anung line maganda at ma visualize mo rin kung bagay sayo ang line at paano takbo ng bola.

WHAT TO DO TO CONQUER THE LANE? easy yun all we have to do is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! if we execute almost the same every shot, the easier for us to adjust and find the best line we need for the pattern, kaya punta na sa playdium at mag practice!!!

thanks! That´s really very informative. Another followup question.

Just for me to visualize it more, if the lane is a top hat pattern and my strike line is a straight line to the 2nd arrow down the lane, what would be the ball reaction if i throw the same ball in the same spot but instead of tophat, it is a reverse block.

would the ball go skid more and hit the pins light?

how about gutter to gutter? would i completely miss the head pin and hit the right side (ie pin 3)?

how about the other 2 lane conditions? what would the effect on the same ball, same target as above?

***** Looks like the last 3 are all of the same, i.e., it starts as a crown then became a top hat then a christmas tree?! I´m lost, kc now its either a lane with alot of oil in the middle nalang, no oil in the middle or equal oil frm 1st to last panel.

*****Sir, how do we read the lane other than being resourceful (ask the print out), observe and survey players...

how do you read the lanes?

study the reaction of the ball during practice bowl. try to find strikelines at various areas. you need ball sense for this.

what are the different oil patterns?

flat, blocks, reverse blocks, top hats, christmas trees

what do you do to conquer that lane?

practice. experiment.

assuming blah blah, top hat, reverse, gutter, will i get a strike?

assuming that the blend is the same along the 2nd arrow for all patterns you mentioned, there is a chance that you will get a strike on all conditions. a better answer will be we´ll never know since incomplete ang specs ng pattern.

since you are playing down and in 10th board, the ball will travel a certain distance on the same board until it changes direction. the blend of the next 7 boards (11-17) will determine if the ball will set, jump or fade. it is possible that all patterns will look the same from 10th board up to the 17th.

i wanna clarify some things re: patterns:

1) gutter to gutter is not necessarily hard. it becomes hard after numerous games since it has tendencies to become reverse. if everybody throws in the same area, it has less chances of becoming reverse.

2) reverse block is hard if you don´t know where the dry part is. people tend to play extreme inside angles when they see it´s a reverse.

3) top hat is not oil in middle and almost no oil at the sides. that pattern resembles a block. a top hat is oil at the first few feet gutter to gutter then oil in the middle with less oil at the sides. the gutter to gutter oil resembles the brim of the hat.

4) crown is called such coz it looks like a mountain or a triangle.

5) crown is a christmas tree pattern.

6) if the "easy" patterns are overwalled, it becomes difficult too.

Wow, I never thought that there where 5 types of Lanes condition besides , heavy, medium and light oiled.

Thanks for the info. And that´s right, it takes a lot of practice.
