flare potential is th rg differential it is how much the ball´s surface will be in contact with the lane so the higher the flare potential the higher the amount is the expected hook but coverstock is an important factor of course... the length is the skid potential of the ball before it rolls that is the RG the higher the RGmax & min of a ball the more length is the inherent characteristic of a ball ...

FLARE POTENTIAL

The maximum amount that the axis of a bowling ball can migrate given the construction of the ball provided that the bowler has a maximum power release. Flare potential can also be used to indicate which balls will be better suited for oily conditions (high flare balls) and which balls will be better suited for dryer lane conditions (low flare balls).

LENGTH

Length is an evaluation of how far a ball will travel before it begins to hook. The higher the number, the further down the lane it goes before it hooks. Length does not include skid produced by lane conditioner, additional fine sanding, or the use of "liquid sandpaper" polishes.

Just one point of concern. When reading numbers on length, this is a relative value only and not the actual length when in play. This means it becomes less useful if comparing different brands. The best use of these numbers is when you already have a ball and you´re looking for another that has more/less length compared to the one you already have.

Twas better to have bowled and lost than to have never bowled at all...
